Place: Social Antzokia (Basauri) from April 18th to 25th

Animated Dolls

In this new ANIMABASAURI-ANIMABASQUE edition, we would like to show you the history of animation through several objects and dolls of the most representative characters. From all those characters of the black and white short films that music was the only companion they had to superheroes, animals and objects that bring to life in 3D and make both children and adults enjoy.

Thanks to the help of some animation studios, we will give you the opportunity to see in live the dolls and scale models that were the source of inspiration for many animators that gave us those feature films that marked the infancy of all the children.

“Azur & Asmar” exhibition

April 7, 2008

Due to ANIMABASAURI 4.0-ANIMABASQUE film festival, there will be an exhibition in Kultur Ibaigane Arts Centre in Basauri about French director Michel Ocelot’s Azur & Asmar animated film.

Place: Ibaigane Cultural Arts Center from April 7th to 25th.

Azur & Asmar

Once upon a time there were two children nursed by same woman. Azur, a blonde, blue-eyed son of a noblewoman and Asmar, the dark skinned and dark-eyed child of the nurse. The nurse tells them the story of the Djinn-fairy waiting to be released from her chamber by a good and heroic prince. Brought up together they are as close as brothers until the day Azur’s father cruelly separates them, banishing the nurse and Asmar from his home and sending Azur away to boarding school. Years later, Azur is haunted by memories of the legendary Djinn-fairy, and takes it upon himself to journey all the way to Asmar’s homeland to seek it out. Now reunited, he finds that she has since become a successful merchant, while Asmar is now a member of the royal guard. However, Asmar also longs to find the Djinn-fairy, and only one of the two youths can be successful in their quest.

This is the synopsis of this film directed by Michel Ocelot. After his huge success with ‘Kirikou et la sorcière’ and ‘Kirikou et les bêtes sauvages’ feature films, he started working on this film which beat his previous animated films. During the Festival, in Kultur Ibaigane, we will be able to enjoy and learn the process of directing a film of such a large-scale thanks to a lot of sketches and 3D images.
